Vitalik advocates for increasing the Ethereum gas limit, as it helps resist censorship and enhances L2 interoperability and security during disasters

Odaily Planet Daily reports that Vitalik Buterin advocates for increasing the gas limit of Ethereum, arguing that it helps resist censorship, enhances L2 interoperability and safety during disaster events. Previously, Ethereum co-founder Vitalik Buterin published a new article titled "Why We Still Need to Increase the L1 Gas Limit in an L2-Dominant Ethereum".

The article states that an important recent discussion in the Ethereum roadmap is about how to increase the L1 gas limit. Recently, the L1 gas limit has increased from 30 million to 36 million, a capacity increase of 20%. Many people support further substantial increases in the near future. These increases are safe due to recent and upcoming technical improvements: improved efficiency of Ethereum clients, reduced need for storing old history due to EIP-4444 (see roadmap), and future stateless clients. However, before we go down this path, it's important to ask one question: In the long run, under a Rollup-centric roadmap background, is raising the L1 gas limit correct? We don't want to face centralization risks brought by high L1 usage without really determining if we will benefit from it.
