Hayden Davis, the self-proclaimed facilitator to the controversial LIBRA token, claimed to have paid Argentine President Javier Milei's sister in order to influence her brother ahead of the memecoin's launch, according to CoinDesk.

"I control that n----," Davis claimed in text messages from mid-December, according to CoinDesk , which cited text messages the media outlet reviewed. Davis also said: "I send $$ to his sister and he signs whatever I say and does what I want." The report went on to say that it is "unclear if any money was exchanged between Davis and Milei's inner circle in advance of LIBRA's launch."

Milei's sister, Karina Milei, plays a key role in the president's government as Argentina's General Secretariat of the Presidency, a ministerial-level position.

The LIBRA token scandal has been grabbing headlines since Milei appeared to promote the token with a post to X last week. The memecoin swelled to a market cap of roughly $4 billion and then suddenly lost 95% of its value as Milei deleted the post and withdrew his support.

Davis has said he controlled crypto wallets holding over $100 million worth of funds netted from the LIBRA launch.

On Monday, Milei claimed he never intended to persuade people to buy the LIBRA, adding that he only wanted to “spread the word” about a project that appeared designed to help Argentine businesses. Milei also said that few Argentines lost money and most investors in LIBRA were “Chinese and American.”

The president  faces fraud charges over his perceived involvement in the launching and promoting of the token.
