In the Irkutsk region, “gray” miners are moving to garages

Irkutsk Region Governor Igor Kobzev stated that after the introduction of new energy consumption ranges on January 1, “gray” miners began moving equipment from private households to garages.

This is probably how the governor imagines miners

According to him, a very bad trend is being observed: garage cooperatives have recorded a sharp increase in energy consumption, which indicates that so-called gray miners have begun to actively migrate to this category of consumers.

If the situation does not change in the near future, it will most likely be necessary to revise the threshold values for preferential energy consumption ranges for this category of consumers, the governor said at a meeting with local authorities.

Representatives of the Ministry of Emergency Situations, in turn, noted that in addition to garage cooperatives in the Irkutsk region, “gray” miners began to place equipment for mining cryptocurrencies in sheds and basements.

This has resulted in an increase in the number of calls to emergency services to deal with fires caused by overheating mining devices in such premises.

Let us recall that from January 1, 2025, mining is completely prohibited in ten regions of Russia, as well as in certain areas of Buryatia, the Irkutsk region and the Trans-Baikal Territory in the autumn-winter period.
