Metaplanet purchases $13.4 million worth of bitcoin, boosts holdings to 2,391 BTC

Japanese investment firm Metaplanet has bought an additional $13.4 million worth of bitcoin as the company maintains a positive outlook for the world's largest cryptocurrency.
The Tokyo-listed firm purchased an additional 156 BTC for 2 billion yen (or about $13.4 million) at an average price of about $85,890 per bitcoin, Metaplanet CEO Mark X wrote on X on Monday.
In a statement on Monday, the company noted that the latest purchase of 156 BTC boosted its total holdings to 2,391 BTC, acquired for about $196.3 million at an average price of $82,100 per bitcoin.
Metaplanet has been on a bitcoin buying spree since it announced its bitcoin acquisition strategy in April 2024. Last week, it disclosed that it bought 135 BTC . In December, the company officially designated its bitcoin treasury operations as a core business line. The company has repeatedly said that it aims to hold 10,000 BTC by the end of 2025 and 21,000 BTC by the end of 2026.
Metaplanet’s stock closed up 21.15% at 4,010 yen on Monday in Japan amid a broader crypto market rally . The Nikkei 225 index was up 1.7% today.
Bitcoin gained 6.5% in the past 24 hours to trade at $91,891 at the time of writing, after briefly surging beyond the $94,000 level earlier today, according to The Block's price page .
