MoonPay acquires Iron for $100M to boost stablecoin payments

MoonPay acquires Iron for $100M to boost stablecoin payments

MoonPay, a cryptocurrency payments company, has acquired Iron (CRYPTO:IRON), an API-focused stablecoin infrastructure platform, in a deal reportedly worth at least $100 million.

This strategic acquisition significantly expands MoonPay's enterprise offerings, enabling businesses to accept stablecoin payments efficiently.

The integration of Iron's technology allows companies to manage multi-currency treasuries in real-time, facilitate instant cross-border payments, and generate revenue from yield-bearing assets like U.S. Treasury bills.

Ivan Soto-Wright, MoonPay's CEO, described the acquisition as a "strategic step forward," positioning MoonPay at the forefront of enterprise-grade stablecoin solutions.

With Iron's developer-first APIs, enterprises can eliminate slow bank transfers, fintechs can integrate stablecoin rails for fast and secure payments, and marketplaces can accept stablecoins with instant settlement, avoiding traditional payment network fees.

This acquisition follows MoonPay's recent purchase of Helio (CRYPTO:HELIO), a Solana-based (CRYPTO:SOL) blockchain payment processor, for $175 million in January.

Helio's existing integrations with platforms like Shopify and Discord further enhance MoonPay's crypto on-ramp services and payment solutions.

The deal highlights the growing M&A activity in the crypto sector, with companies seeking to enhance their offerings through strategic partnerships and acquisitions.

Stripe's $1.1 billion acquisition of stablecoin platform Bridge in October 2024 is another notable example of this trend.

MoonPay's acquisition of Iron underscores its commitment to providing robust enterprise solutions for stablecoin payments and treasury management, aligning with the increasing demand for efficient and scalable stablecoin infrastructure.

At the time of reporting, the Iron (IRON) price was $0.0001203.
