Putin refuses a full 30-day ceasefire, only agreeing to limit energy attacks

Bitget2025/03/19 01:12

Russian President Putin has rejected a request from US President Trump for a 30-day ceasefire in Ukraine, instead agreeing to limit attacks on the country's energy infrastructure while demanding that the US and other countries stop providing weapons and intelligence to Ukraine. Putin's stance is far removed from the calls of the Trump administration, which advocates for a full 30-day ceasefire in order to reach a long-term agreement. Russia's position will force Trump into making difficult decisions about whether or not to continue supplying weapons to Ukraine. Despite Putin rejecting the ceasefire terms, Trump posted on his social media saying that their conversation was "very good and productive". He said they discussed many aspects of a "peace treaty", with both Putin and Zelensky hoping to see an agreement ending conflict. Russia's stance will again force Trump into making tough choices about whether or not he should continue sending arms to Ukraine.
