XRP vs SEC: Ripple Chairman to meet SEC chair Paul Atkins?

Though the official agenda of the meeting is yet to be known, there is hope that this is the start of a resolution of the long-standing SEC vs Ripple case.

Ripple Executive Chairman Chris Larsen will reportedly meet the new Securities and Exchange Commission Chair, Paul Atkins, on May 2, 2025.

This meeting is being viewed as a major moment for the crypto industry. If everything goes well, it could put an end to long-standing legal uncertainty surrounding XRP and potentially set the stage for future rules on crypto in the U.S.

Paul Atkins, a former SEC Commissioner, has returned as Chair during pro-crypto Trump’s administration. Recently, he stated that the SEC should not be stifling the crypto industry and instead should cooperate with it. In a roundtable on April 25, he stressed that supportive regulations are needed to promote growth and innovation in blockchain.

Though the official agenda of the meeting is yet to be known, there is hope that this is the start of a resolution of the long-standing SEC vs Ripple case. If the two parties agree on a settlement, it might finally provide answers to whether XRP is a security or not, something that has led to years of legal disputes.

The conference may also cover the ways Ripple’s technology, such as XRP, can make global money transfers better. If XRP is approved by the SEC, it could lead to more banks and institutions accepting it, making it a giant leap in terms of usage and value.

Atkins has also proposed creating a “ regulatory sandbox ” for crypto in America. This would allow blockchain and startup projects a way to trial their product within a less regulatory and safe place, so America can compete with other nations that are already out front with regards to crypto development.

Hype over crypto ETFs is building. Bloomberg’s ETF strategist, Eric Balchunas, now predicts an 85% probability of the XRP ETF approval by the SEC in 2025. That would have large institutions being able to invest in XRP more conveniently, potentially pushing the price even higher.

XRP currently trades at $2.23 and is up more than 3% in the last 24 hours.
