World Foundation Advisor: Iris Scanning Technology Misunderstood, Data Never Leaves Orb Device
World Foundation advisor Liam Horne stated at Consensus 2025 that the controversy surrounding the project's iris scanning technology is "often misunderstood," and claims that World or Altman possesses user data are "actually the complete opposite," as "data never leaves the Orb device." Horne emphasized that the system "was designed with privacy protection from the ground up." The World network uses a mechanism called "proof-of-personhood" to convert biometric information generated by iris scans into a World ID, which is used to verify that users are real and independent individuals. The project has recently expanded to six major U.S. cities, including Atlanta and San Francisco.
