Trump Meme Coin Dinner Sparks Protests, Democratic Lawmaker Calls It "Crypto Corruption" and Proposes Blockage
As President Trump hosts a dinner for major investors of his meme coin, "at least three events initiated by Congressional Democrats" took place on the 22nd, accusing his involvement in crypto projects of "constituting corruption." Representative Maxine Waters accused him of "shamelessly using White House power to promote and profit from a series of crypto projects related to himself and his family," and announced plans to introduce new legislation to "completely block Trump's meme coin and end his crypto corruption." The bill would prohibit the President, Vice President, members of Congress, and their families from "engaging in similar crypto crimes." Protesters also gathered outside the "Trump National Golf Club," the venue for the President's dinner with meme coin investors. The organizer of the "America Is Not For Sale" rally called it a "blatant act of selling political influence to the highest bidder."
