Forbes: Bitcoin Pizza Day Participant Reveals Actual Cost of Pizza Was Nearly 100,000 BTC, Wallet Now Empty
On May 22, 2010, Laszlo Hanyecz, the programmer involved in the "Bitcoin Pizza Day," spent 10,000 BTC to exchange for two large Papa John's pizzas. However, what most people are unaware of is that Laszlo Hanyecz spent up to 79,000 bitcoins on subsequent pizza purchases that day, which are now worth over $8.7 billion. He also mentioned in a 2019 interview that he spent nearly 100,000 BTC on pizza in 2010.
Additionally, to prove that he used all his bitcoins to purchase pizza, Laszlo Hanyecz published his bitcoin address on the Bitcointalk forum. This wallet shows that from its creation on April 10, 2010, until August 4, 2010 (the day he ended his public transactions of exchanging bitcoin for pizza), over 79,000 bitcoins were sent. The bitcoins in this wallet were emptied in June 2011, with a total outflow slightly exceeding 81,432 bitcoins. (Forbes)
