Japanese Prime Minister Shigeru Ishiba Holds Phone Call with Trump, Reiterates Demand for Tariff Removal
According to a report by Jinse Finance, on the evening of the 13th, Japanese Prime Minister Shigeru Ishiba held a phone call with U.S. President Donald Trump, reiterating Japan’s request for a complete removal of tariffs in response to the U.S.'s high tariff measures. Ishiba stated, “Our position demanding the removal of tariffs remains unchanged.” The two leaders confirmed that they would hold talks during the upcoming G7 Summit in Canada to further deepen discussions on Japan-U.S. cooperation. They also agreed to accelerate consultations between responsible cabinet ministers to reach a mutually beneficial consensus for both countries. The call, which lasted about 20 minutes, was initiated by the Japanese side. Ishiba mentioned that the reason for the call was that June 14 is Trump’s birthday, saying, “Although it’s a day early, I wanted to wish him a happy birthday, so I made the call.” (Kyodo News)
