As Iran weighs retaliation for US strikes, US and UK urge citizens in Qatar to shelter in place

According to a report by Jinse Finance, after Iran vowed to retaliate against the U.S. attack on its nuclear facilities, the U.S. and U.K. governments have advised their citizens in Qatar to keep a low profile. On Monday, the U.S. Embassy in Doha stated in a release: "Out of an abundance of caution, we advise U.S. citizens to shelter in place until further notice." U.K. Foreign Secretary Lammy made a similar statement in Parliament. On Monday, a senior Iranian military official said Iran's response to Washington's weekend attack would be "proportionate." It is reported that Qatar hosts the largest U.S. base in the region. The base, Al Udeid Air Base, also serves as the headquarters of U.S. Central Command in the Middle East, overseeing U.S. military operations in the region. There are currently about 9,000 U.S. military personnel stationed in Qatar. The Qatari Ministry of Foreign Affairs has recently announced the temporary closure of its airspace to ensure the safety of visitors and residents.
