Trump plans to issue executive order to promote artificial intelligence development
PANews, June 27—According to four sources familiar with the matter, the Trump administration is preparing a series of executive actions aimed at driving the expansion of artificial intelligence in the United States. The sources revealed that the measures under consideration include making it easier for power generation projects to connect to the grid and providing federal land for the construction of data centers needed to support the growth of AI technologies. According to Grid Strategies, a power industry consulting firm, U.S. electricity demand from 2024 to 2029 is expected to grow at five times the rate forecasted in 2022. A report from consulting firm Deloitte indicates that by 2035, the power demand from AI data centers could increase more than thirtyfold. The sources also disclosed that the government is considering prioritizing mature power generation projects in the grid connection queue. The executive orders would also authorize the Department of Defense and the Department of the Interior to allocate land under their jurisdiction for project construction. Additionally, the government is considering streamlining data center permitting by establishing a nationwide Clean Water Act permit, rather than requiring companies to apply for permits state by state. The White House is also considering designating July 23 as “AI Action Day.”
