MetaMask introduces social login feature, allows users to create wallets with Google or Apple accounts
Quick Take The self-custodial crypto wallet app announced the introduction of a new social login feature. The new feature enables MetaMask users to create, backup and restore wallets through their Google or Apple accounts.

MetaMask, the popular self-custodial cryptocurrency wallet from Consensys, has enabled users to create wallets using their Google or Apple accounts.
In a Tuesday blog post , MetaMask said that it has introduced a new "Social login" feature, enabling users to use their Google or Apple accounts to create, backup and restore wallets.
Managing a non-custodial crypto wallet typically requires a 12-word Secret Recovery Phrase (SRP). The social login feature "simplifies the wallet creation and management process" by allowing users to sign in with their social accounts and create a password. Then, the SRP is created in the background and can later be retrieved through the same social account and password used to set up the wallet.
MetaMask also cautioned that wallets cannot be recovered if users lose their passwords.
"No single entity, not even MetaMask, can access all of the pieces needed in order to retrieve your SRP, preserving the self-custodial nature of your wallet," said MetaMask.
"For a truly self-custodial solution, there must be a component that is independent of the infrastructure and only accessible to you. In this case, it’s your password," the team said in a separate document .
