Vitalik advocates zk anonymous voting mechanisms to solve social issues, stating that governance actions should protect decision-makers from threats of violence.
ChainCatcher reported that Vitalik Buterin commented on the incident of a judge's house being set on fire, stating, "I have a more radical belief that more governance actions should be conducted through anonymous/secret voting (for example, I have previously advocated for secret voting in the United Nations General Assembly) to protect decision-makers from external pressure and threats of violence."
He stated, "The duty of a judge is to make rulings based on the facts as interpreted by their conscience, not to be accountable to violent mobs. Nowadays, these ideas may sound crazy—'Why would cryptocurrency enthusiasts want to push zero-knowledge proof technology solutions into the realm of social issues?'—but in the 2020s, an era where physical retaliation is easily accessible (including from hostile foreign forces), I believe such concepts will increasingly enter the Overton window."
