Buffett on the current market: "A church with a casino attached"
Jinse Finance reported that on May 3, Buffett compared the market to "a church with an attached casino" during an interview with reporters, to distinguish between traditional value investing and the current boom in short-term options trading as well as the growing speculative atmosphere in prediction markets. He stated, "People can freely switch between the church and the casino. At present, there are still more people in the 'church' than in the 'casino', but the allure of the casino has become very strong. Buying or selling same-day options is neither investing nor speculating; in essence, it's gambling." Buffett bluntly remarked that the current nationwide "gambling mentality" has reached its peak. Buffett: The current environment is not ideal for Berkshire to deploy capital
Golden Ten Data, May 3 – In an interview with CNBC, Buffett stated, “As far as Berkshire's capital deployment is concerned, this is not currently our ideal market environment.” Buffett mentioned that Berkshire has an excellent management team capable of taking action at the right moment and patiently waiting for suitable opportunities. He explained that although it may seem outwardly that Berkshire sometimes remains inactive, in fact, the company will act vigorously when the timing is appropriate. He admitted that the reluctance to deploy large amounts of capital is partly due to the overall high market valuation. When asked when the right time for investment would be, Buffett said that when “no one is willing to answer the phone,” the opportunity will naturally present itself.
