In late April, sugarcane crushing volume in central-southern Brazil surged by 123%, with sugar production doubling year-on-year to 1.8 million tons.⑴ Data released by the Brazilian Sugarcane Industry Association on Wednesday showed that in late April, the sugarcane crushing volume in Brazil’s south-central region reached 40.062 million tonnes, a year-on-year increase of 123.12%. Sugar production was 1.8 million tonnes, soaring 109.48% year-on-year. ⑵ During the same period, total ethanol production reached 2.039 billion liters, up 105.85% year-on-year, including corn-based biofuel. Sugar mills used 40.34% of sugarcane for sugar production, down from 45.65% in the same period last year.
