Arweave Founder: Irys is planning to fork Arweave, no longer maintaining the dataset and resetting the token supply
Sam, the founder of Arweave, cited a reliable source in a tweet saying that Irys (formerly Bundlr Network), an ecological storage solution for Arweave, is planning to fork Arweave. They will no longer maintain data sets, reset token supply and ignore protocol evolution mechanisms. The ar.io network plans to remove Irys bundlers from the trusted settings of the Arweave mainnet gateway, which will cause serious delays before user data becomes available. Sam said he would open X Space for discussion on this event.
Sam believes that for permanent storage networks, forks need to be carried out by preserving and building states rather than destroying them. This can only lead to failure in achieving information permanence as all data will be regularly discarded. Sam thinks that the only possible reason for Irys' fork is greed. Currently, with the support of ar.io network, Forward Research is running a free Arweave bundler service which will continue after users migrate. If users want to use the free Arweave bundler service they just need to replace their code's Irys node URL with https://up.arweave.net.
