15th Anniversary of the Birth of Bitcoin's Genesis Block
Today marks the 15th anniversary of the birth of Bitcoin's Genesis Block. At local time on January 3, 2009 in the afternoon (Singapore time early morning on January 4, 2009), Satoshi Nakamoto created the first block of Bitcoin, known as the Genesis Block (Block height 0), on a small server located in Helsinki, Finland and received a block reward of the first batch of 50 Bitcoins. In this Genesis Block, Nakamoto wrote: "The Times 03/Jan/2009 Chancellor on brink of second bailout for banks." This sentence is from that day's headline article in The Times newspaper in UK. The message left by Nakamoto was undoubtedly a mockery to traditional banking systems. It is worth noting that it took until January 8, five days later (local time) to mine out Bitcoin’s second block. On January12th ,the first bitcoin transaction occurred when Satoshi Nakamoto transferred ten bitcoins to Hal Finney who was an early developer involved with bitcoin . From then onwards, the era represented by cryptocurrencies like Bitcoin officially began.
