Kenya drops Worldcoin investigation
The Kenyan National Police Service Criminal Investigation Department (DCI) issued an official statement on June 14, 2024, announcing that it has abandoned the investigation into Worldcoin. The statement was a formal response to a status update request submitted by Worldcoin's lawyer in May 2024. The DCI pointed out that Kenya's public prosecution department has agreed and ordered the closure of the Worldcoin case, and the police will no longer take further action. After the investigation, the Kenyan police recommended that Worldcoin ensure commercial registration in the country and obtain appropriate licenses and coordination from the Data Protection Commission and the Communications Authority of Kenya. At the same time, the police also recommended that Worldcoin conduct strict reviews of all third-party suppliers in Kenya and sign legal contracts.
