WikiLeaks founder Assange has left the UK and will ultimately return to Australia
WikiLeaks announced on social media that, on the morning of June 24 local time, WikiLeaks founder Assange left Belmarsh Prison in London, UK, where he had spent 1901 days. He was granted bail by the High Court of London and was released at Stansted Airport in the afternoon. There he boarded a plane and left the UK. Previous media reports claimed that Assange agreed to plead guilty in exchange for avoiding imprisonment in US jails. It is expected that after pleading guilty he will return to Australia; sentencing is scheduled for Wednesday morning local time on Saipan Island, the largest island of Mariana Islands because Assange opposes going to mainland USA and this court is close to Australia.
