The progress of crypto in recent years in the eyes of the founder of Ethereum
Buterin recently made some comments regarding the evolution of cryptocurrencies from 2018-2019 so far.
He, however admitted , that while the practical aspects have changed, the basic principles of Blockchain technology still stand. Bloomberg anchor Joe Weisenthal discusses the shift in crypto culture and how visions of an open internet governance and universal basic income have been replaced by memes.
But Vitalik argues that despite this transformation, much has been achieved in terms of foundational ideas. For example, he mentioned decentralized social networks such as Farcaster and Lens, which seek to improve digital democracy by making internet platforms more accessible and user-controlled.
He also talked about funding models such as those aligned with universal basic income, which could ensure an even distribution of resources or support for impactful initiatives.
Buterin also credits Zero-Proof (ZK) voting systems, which improve voting privacy and security through cryptographic techniques.
However, amid today's market emphasis on financial goals, the core elements behind blockchain—decentralization, privacy, and innovative funding models—continue to drive technological progress.
Overall, Buterin insists that the cryptocurrency community is always looking for ways to use blockchain technology for greater social and technical good. Reflected in this commitment is an unwavering desire to build a decentralized and inclusive Internet beyond narrow economic interests.
