Apple's executive is set to obtain an observer position on OpenAI's board
Media reports that as part of the milestone agreement announced last month, Apple Inc. will secure an observer position on OpenAI's board, further strengthening the relationship between these once unlikely partners. Insiders revealed that Phil Schiller, head of Apple's App Store and former marketing director, was chosen for this role. As a board observer, he will not serve in the capacity of a formal director. In June, Apple announced it would offer ChatGP in its new AI features series for iPhone, iPad and Mac. Insiders disclosed that the board arrangement will take effect later this year and Schiller has yet to attend any meetings; specifics may still change. The role of a board observer puts Apple on par with Microsoft - OpenAI's largest investor and main provider of artificial intelligence technology - allowing someone to participate in board meetings without voting or exercising other directorial powers but does provide deep insight into company decision-making processes.
