Crypto Senate Showdown: Deaton vs. Cain, Lummis’ Endorsement Sparks Debate

  • Senator Cynthia Lummis backs Ian Cain for Senate due to his crypto knowledge.
  • Crypto community split, preferring XRP advocate John Deaton.
  • Deaton supporter Bill Morgan doubts Lummis’ awareness of his contributions.

A debate has ignited in the crypto community following Senator Cynthia Lummis’ endorsement of Ian Cain for the U.S. Senate. While Cain, the Executive Chairman of QUBIC Labs, is known for his crypto-friendly stance, some XRP advocates, like Bill Morgan, are questioning Lummis’ decision, particularly in light of John Deaton’s pro-crypto advocacy and his prominent role in the ongoing SEC-Ripple lawsuit.

This endorsement did not come out of the blue. Lummis, a well-known crypto advocate in the Senate, highlighted Cain’s strong understanding of the digital economy and his embrace of innovation as key reasons for her support, stating:

“I’m excited to announce my endorsement of Ian Cain in his race for the U.S. Senate. Washington is ready for the next generation of leaders who not only understand the digital economy, but embrace innovation. Ian Cain is ready to be that voice for Massachusetts. From the border to blockchain, Ian Cain understands the issues facing his community and he will fight hard everyday for the Commonwealth.”

Overwhelmed by Lummis’ endorsement, Cain expressed his gratitude to the Senator on X (formerly Twitter). The Republican Senate candidate praised Lummis as the Congresswoman of “innovation and technology.” He added, “I am eager to work with her to grow our economy, spark innovation, and create opportunity.”

However, the crypto community is not united in its support for Cain. Another candidate vying for a Senate seat is John Deaton, a vocal XRP advocate known for his relentless fight on behalf of XRP holders in the SEC lawsuit. Deaton’s supporters are wondering why Lummis did not throw her weight behind him instead.

Bill Morgan even questioned whether Lummis was aware of Deaton’s significant contributions to the crypto community, wherein he was fighting for more than 76,000 XRP holders against the Securities and Exchange Commission.
