V God: Oppose voting based on "whether politicians support cryptocurrency"
On July 18th, PANews reported that Vitalik Buterin, co-founder of Ethereum, wrote an article opposing making political voting choices based on "whether to support cryptocurrency." He stated that in the past few years, cryptocurrencies have become an increasingly important topic in political policies, with various jurisdictions considering legislation to regulate participants in blockchain activities. The cryptocurrency field is becoming more politically active, with many people supporting candidates solely based on whether they are friendly towards cryptocurrencies. Buterin opposes this trend and believes that making decisions in this way carries high risks and goes against the values that initially drew people into the crypto space. He pointed out that in the crypto field, there is often an excessive focus on the central role of money and the freedom to hold and spend money (or tokens). Bitcoin is seen as an extension of libertarian spirit in internet payment sector. Vitalik believes that freedom is crucial and decentralized networks excel at protecting freedom; money is just one important area where such networks can be applied but not the only one. Moreover, being crypto-friendly now does not guarantee being so five years later. Supporting a politician should be based on their entire agenda and viewpoints rather than just because they support cryptocurrencies.
