Democratic Congressman: Cryptocurrency Regulation Shouldn't Be a “Partisan Political Game”

As cryptocurrency lobbyists and supporters gain influence in Washington, questions have arisen as to whether Democrats will stick to the tough regulatory stance they have taken over the past few years or ease up on it, according to CNBC. Rep. Wiley Nickel, a North Carolina Democrat, said in an interview that every presidential candidate needs to recognize that voters who support digital assets and innovation can't be ignored, and emphasized that cryptocurrency regulation shouldn't be a “partisan political game”. Rep. Ro Khanna, a California Democrat, also said that cryptocurrencies should not be the focus of partisan debate, but need to be regulated like any other technology. He noted that being against Bitcoin is like being against cell phones, artificial intelligence and laptops. It is a technology that needs thoughtful regulation.
Khanna and Nickel were among a handful of Democratic lawmakers who attended the Bitcoin conference.
