A Chinese man was kidnapped in Malaysia and his family paid $1.2 million in ransom via virtual currency
Malaysian police recently cracked a kidnapping case involving Chinese nationals, Caixin reported. During the operation in the Johor Skurai district, police killed four suspects and arrested 10 people, and are still hunting three men and one woman. The victim, a Chinese man, was kidnapped after arriving in Malaysia in July this year, and the two victims were eventually released after their families paid a ransom of US$1.2 million (about Rs 8.62 million) via virtual currency. Police recovered about US$373,000 (roughly Rs. 2.68 million) in cash, as well as vehicles, watches and jewelry worth about US$700,000 (roughly Rs. 5.02 million). The mastermind of the case was the victims' personal driver.
