Musk: X will shut down business in Brazil to protest against illegal censorship
Musk announced that X is closing its office in Brazil, while retaining its services in the country, due to disagreement with the (illegal) secret review and private information transfer requests of a Brazilian Supreme Court Justice. The Global Government Affairs Department of X stated in a post, "Brazilian Supreme Court Justice Alexandre de Moraes threatened that if we do not comply with his review order, he will arrest our legal representative in Brazil. He claimed this action was based on a secret order. We share this order here to expose his behavior. To ensure the safety of employees, we have decided to close our business in Brazil with immediate effect." It is currently unclear how large X's operations are in Brazil. Data from Sensor Tower shows that as of the first quarter, the platform had about 20 million active users in Brazil, down approximately 15% from the same period last year.
