Harris Advisor: Harris is dedicated to balancing artificial intelligence policies
According to Politico, an advisor to U.S. Vice President Harris stated on Tuesday that Harris will strike a balance between the desire for the United States to surpass other countries in artificial intelligence and the need to protect people from deep fakes and other harmful uses. "She has always believed that the United States must maintain its global competitiveness in artificial intelligence and other emerging technologies," said Tony West, Harris's brother-in-law, who has been assisting with her campaign. However, West went on to say that this technology could potentially create fake images and audio which can be used to deceive and defraud people; this issue also needs addressing, he noted as a primary concern of Harris from her time as a prosecutor and state attorney general. West is also currently serving as Senior Vice President and Chief Legal Officer at Uber.
