New York Judge Orders SEC to Provide Portions of Documents in Coinbase Case, but Not Gensler's Related Document
A New York judge has granted part of cryptocurrency exchange Coinbase's motion to have documents turned over by the US Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC), however, the exchange's motion to issue a subpoena for SEC Chairman Gary Gensler has been denied. U.S. District Judge Katherine Polk Failla said in her order, “For the reasons stated in the transcript of the September 5, 2024 conference call, the Court grants in part and denies in part Defendants' motion to compel.” Coinbase had asked the court to compel the agency to produce certain documents related to the tokens in the SEC's complaint, documents relating to the SEC's consideration of Coinbase as a public company in April 2021, and statements made by Gensler during his tenure at the SEC, both personally and professionally.
