Former President Donald Trump faced a second assassination attempt on September 15 while playing golf at his West Palm Beach course.

The incident caused a stir in both political circles and the cryptocurrency market, leading to a notable drop in Bitcoin's (CRYPTO:BTC) price.

The suspect, identified as 58-year-old Ryan Wesley Routh, was arrested shortly after the incident.

Trump was unharmed, but the news sent shockwaves through the market, causing Bitcoin (BTC) to fall around 3% from $60,313 to $58,627.

The attempt occurred around 1 PM EST, when Secret Service agents spotted a man armed with an AK-47 style rifle hiding in the bushes near Trump’s property.

Shots were fired, prompting the suspect to flee in his black SUV.

Authorities recovered two backpacks, a GoPro camera, and the rifle near the fence.

A witness's quick thinking to photograph the suspect's license plate helped police locate and arrest him on Interstate 95.

The impact of the news was immediately felt in the crypto market.

Bitcoin's decline resulted in a wave of liquidations worth $116.52 million, with $106.52 million coming from long trades.

Over the past 24 hours, market volatility increased, affecting 49,351 traders.

Trump’s pro-cryptocurrency stance, which includes his aim to make the U.S. a hub for digital assets, may have contributed to the market's reaction.

The FBI is investigating the incident as an "attempted assassination."

Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas praised the Secret Service for its swift response, stating, "I commend the Secret Service for its quick action to preempt this apparent assassination attempt and protect the former President."

He further emphasised the importance of protecting presidential candidates.

Political leaders, including President Joe Biden and Vice President Kamala Harris, condemned the violence and expressed relief that Trump was unharmed.

Harris noted, "I have been briefed on reports of gunshots fired near former President Trump and his property in Florida, and I am glad he is safe. Violence has no place in America."

At press time, the Bitcoin (BTC) price was $58,237.43.
