Quick Take Jump Crypto’s Kevin Bowers said during the Solana Breakpoint event that Jump’s Frankendancer validator client launched on the Solana mainnet. Firedancer is currently on testnet, and a mainnet launch date has yet to be announced.

Frankendancer, a validator client and a prototype of Firedancer , launched on Solana’s mainnet, Jump Crypto ’s chief science officer Kevin Bowers announced Friday at Singapore’s Solana Breakpoint event.

Frankendancer’s launch precedes the mainnet launch of its full validator client, Firedancer.

This comes after Agave , another validator client from development form Anza, launched on Solana mainnet in August of this year. “We thought that this would have many practical benefits — Agave could continue to evolve independently, we would naturally keep in sync with protocol updates, the hybrid validator would be composed of documented and standardized modules that others could replace to make their validators,” said Bowers, adding that it gives the team community production and release experience before the full Firedancer is ready.

In his keynote speech, Bowers announced that the much-anticipated Firedancer is running on testnet. The Block reached out to Jump for further information on Firedancer’s scheduled mainnet launch date.

“A second independent validator has benefits beyond performance, but performance is a prerequisite for reduced costs and increased capacity,” Bowers said. “We are working with the community in all these areas, and as we’ve shown in demos, Agave can hit current protocol caps as is.”

Meanwhile, Agave announced last month that its v2.0 will debut on Solana Mainnet-Beta in the weeks following Solana Breakpoint 2024. The major updates include multiple breaking changes and API endpoint removals.
