The U.S. Senate passes a bill to enhance the security of presidential candidates
On September 24th local time, the U.S. Senate unanimously passed the "Strengthening Presidential Security Act", aimed at enhancing the Secret Service's protection of major presidential candidates. After Republican presidential candidate Trump faced two attempted assassinations this year, the House of Representatives unanimously passed this bill on September 20th and submitted it to the Senate for review. The bill will strengthen the Secret Service's protection of presidential candidates to match that of a sitting president. In addition, it expands presidential-level protection to vice-presidential candidates and requires regular reports from the Secret Service to leaders in both houses about candidate security situations. Previously reported, The House had passed legislation strengthening security for presidential candidates.
