Sean Combs shares cell with FTX’s Sam Bankman-Fried

According to a report from the New York Times, American rapper Sean “Diddy” Combs and Sam Bankman-Fried (SBF), the founder of the bankrupt crypto exchange FTX (CRYPTO:FTT), are currently sharing a cell at the Metropolitan Detention Center (MDC) in Brooklyn.

Other notable inmates sharing the unit include Mexico’s former secretary of public security, García Luna, and the former president of Honduras, Juan Orlando Hernández.

Bankman-Fried has been at MDC since August 2023 after his bail was revoked due to allegations of witness tampering.

He is serving a 25-year prison sentence for fraud and other charges tied to the collapse of FTX, which resulted in billions of dollars in losses for its customers.

SBF has remained at MDC as he appeals his conviction.

Sean Combs was arrested on September 16, 2024, following a raid by federal authorities.

He faces charges of sex trafficking and racketeering conspiracy, accused of participating in years of sexual and physical abuse.

Combs has pleaded not guilty to all charges.

Despite his legal team’s request to release him on a $50 million bail with 24/7 monitoring, the judge denied the request due to concerns over potential witness tampering.

Combs’ lawyers initially criticised the living conditions at MDC, pointing to issues such as poor internet access and inadequate diet and medication, similar to complaints made by SBF’s attorneys last year.

However, Marc Agnifilo, Combs' lawyer, has since praised the MDC staff for their professionalism and assistance in helping Combs prepare for his trial.

The high-profile cases of both Combs and Bankman-Fried continue to draw significant public attention as they await further legal proceedings.

At the time of reporting, the FTX price was $1.41.
