Nick Szabo leads Polymarket as HBO's Satoshi Nakamoto reveal

Nick Szabo, a well-known American computer scientist, has emerged as the leading candidate on Polymarket to be named as Bitcoin’s (CRYPTO:BTC) creator in HBO’s upcoming documentary, Money Electric: The Bitcoin Mystery.

Szabo, recognized for inventing Bit Gold, a precursor to Bitcoin, has overtaken cryptographer Len Sassaman, who was previously the frontrunner.

Polymarket currently gives Szabo a 27.9% chance of being identified as Satoshi Nakamoto in the documentary, while Sassaman’s odds have dropped to 14%.

The decline in Sassaman’s odds followed the documentary’s producer, Cullen Hoback, revealing in an interview that he confronted the person he believes to be Nakamoto, which likely rules out Sassaman, who passed away in 2011.

“We make a strong case […] and I think their reaction is more telling than the evidence itself,” Hoback said, adding that the public should understand Nakamoto’s identity, especially if they are still involved in Bitcoin.

Other figures speculated to be Nakamoto include Blockstream CEO Adam Back, with 4.3% odds, and jailed software programmer Paul Le Roux at 2.8%.

Hal Finney, the first recipient of a Bitcoin transaction from Nakamoto, holds 2.7% odds, though he passed away in 2014, further diminishing his chances of being named.

Meanwhile, the "Other/Multiple" option currently leads Polymarket at 37%.

Hoback also indicated that his documentary would focus on one specific person, suggesting that it may identify Bitcoin’s creator as an individual rather than a group.

The documentary is set to air on October 9, and the mystery of Satoshi Nakamoto’s identity may finally be revealed.
