Heather Morgan, also known as "Razzlekhan," faces an 18-month prison sentence after pleading guilty to laundering cryptocurrency stolen in the 2016 Bitfinex hack.

Though not involved in the original theft, prosecutors highlighted her role in obscuring stolen Bitcoin, working alongside her husband, Ilya Lichtenstein, who was the mastermind behind the hack.

Morgan and Lichtenstein used various methods, including darknet markets and cryptocurrency exchanges, to hide the stolen funds.

They also used the proceeds to purchase non-fungible tokens (NFTs), gold, and gift cards.

Prosecutors acknowledged the complexity and scale of the couple’s actions but noted that Morgan’s involvement stemmed from her relationship with Lichtenstein.

In their court filing, prosecutors emphasized, “While it is true the defendant did not participate in the original hack of Bitfinex, she was not a total stranger to the underlying offense.”

They further explained that Morgan was "thrust into the middle" of the scheme, possibly feeling pressured to support her husband.

Morgan faces up to five years in prison on two counts but is likely to receive a reduced sentence due to her cooperation with investigators.

Prosecutors recommended a lighter punishment, considering the circumstances and her cooperation.
