A group of law enforcement officers in Thailand has been arrested for allegedly attempting to extort millions of dollars in USDT from a Chinese individual residing in the country.
Local media outlets reported on Saturday that investigators at Thung Song Hong police station had detained seven suspects in the case, including six Thai police officers and one civilian. The seven were part of a 12-member gang that reportedly tried to extort Mr. Sai, the Chinese individual with Vanuatu citizenship, at his house in Bang Phli district on October 16.
The Daring $10M Extortion Attempt
According to one report , the six police officers allegedly broke into Sai’s residence in the company of an ordinary person disguised as a law enforcement officer, claiming to implement a legal search warrant issued by the Samut Prakan Provincial Court.

The suspects then “confiscated” Sai’s mobile phones and computers and claimed that he was involved in forged passports and another offense, hiring a foreign maid without permission. While Sai denied both “crimes,” the suspects demanded 300 million Thai baht or 10 million USDT to “settle the case privately.”
After refusing to pay the requested amount, the suspects took Sai to a “government” building, agreeing to a new private settlement of 10 million Thai baht. The amount was revised to 5.6 million Thai bat, which Sai paid in two crypto transactions after further negotiations in the “interrogation room.”
Sai reportedly sent another 700,000 baht to one of the police officers in exchange for information on who alerted the officers to his “crimes.” When he didn’t hear from the suspects, Sai instructed his lawyer to file a complaint against the officers for extortion.
According to the report, three cyber police officers involved in the case turned themselves in, while two other suspects remain at large. As investigations are ongoing, National police chief Kitrat Phanphe has asked the Metropolitan Police boss to take strict disciplinary and criminal action against the officers involved.
