Vitalik elaborates on his vision for the development of an ideal crypto wallet: focusing primarily on cross-L2 transactions and privacy protection, among other aspects
PANews reported on December 3rd that Ethereum co-founder Vitalik Buterin detailed his vision for the ideal cryptocurrency wallet in his latest blog post. The article states that a key layer of the Ethereum infrastructure stack is the wallet, but core L1 researchers and developers often underestimate this. The wallet is the window between users and the Ethereum world, and users can only benefit from decentralization, anti-censorship, security, privacy or other attributes provided by Ethereum and its applications if these attributes are also present in their wallets.
In terms of cross-L2 transactions, Vitalik proposed adopting chain-specific address formats (such as address@optimism.eth), suggesting that wallets automatically handle cross-chain exchanges and transfer processes. For account security, he recommends using social recovery mechanisms and multi-signature schemes; new users should adopt a 2-of-3 protection scheme including zk-emails, local keys, and service provider backup keys. Regarding privacy protection, it emphasizes integrating features like privacy pools directly into mainstream wallets to achieve default privacy settings. In terms of data storage,Vitalik suggests evolving wallets into personal data storage tools protected by M-of-N key sharing mechanisms.
Looking ahead,Vitalik predicts AI technologies will completely change how we interact with our digital wallets. In terms of Dapp safety,Ideally, the ecosystem would shift towards blockchain-based content version control.Users would access dapps through their ENS names which contain an IPFS hash for interface updates.Chain transactions requiring multiple signatures or DAO approval could be used to update interfaces.Wallets could show whether they're interacting with safer blockchain interfaces or less secure web2 interfaces. They could also indicate whether they're interacting with secure chains, such as phase one plus, multiple security audits.
