Foreign Media: OpenSea's registration in the Cayman Islands sparks speculation about possible preparation for airdrop

According to CoinDesk, speculation has arisen that NFT trading platform OpenSea may be preparing for a token airdrop after registering an entity in the Cayman Islands. An anonymous researcher from Azuki and user Waleswoosh from platform X posted a screenshot of OpenSea's registration. The registration information appeared at the Cayman Islands General Registry and was also confirmed by OpenSea to CoinDesk.

The post sparked speculation as to whether this move is a step towards issuing tokens in a cryptocurrency jurisdiction friendlier than the United States. A dashboard created on Dune allows OpenSea users to check their historical activity to estimate the potential value of an airdrop. However, OpenSea declined to comment on whether it would launch its native token.

OpenSea plans to launch OpenSea 2.0 this month, with over one million individual wallets registered on the waiting list. The new platform features a "retro" section that rewards users' historical activities in the form of "points". This year, point leaderboards have become common ways for token drops by incentivizing ongoing activity and loyalty among users. However, there are currently no signs indicating that OpenSea plans to adopt this approach.
