Grant Thornton, the firm handling the case of the bankrupt crypto exchange Cryptopia, has begun returning money to users of the platform who suffered from an exploit in 2019.

According to the liquidator's statement, more than 10 people will receive back their BTC and DOGE assets totaling $000 million by the end of this year. After this first distribution, Grant Thornton representatives will continue to return funds to Cryptopia customers according to the court-ordered plan.

An additional distribution of capital will be made between account holders so that they can recover 100% of their assets, including through the “unclaimed funds” of users who never registered on the claims portal after the deadlines, the liquidator noted.

Additionally, Grant Thornton urged all affected Cryptopia account holders to register on the claim portal to be eligible for future payments.

Cryptopia crypto exchange launched in New Zealand in 2014. A few years later, it became the country's largest platform, with about 1,4 million registered users. After a hack in January 2019, Cryptopia lost $16 million worth of cryptocurrency and was forced to file for bankruptcy.
