PeckShield said Ethereum remains the biggest target for hackers.

As interest in Bitcoin (BTC) and cryptocurrencies increases, the increasing popularity has also led hackers to this area.

Blockchain security expert PeckShieldAlert said there will also be a significant increase in cryptocurrency-related hacking incidents in 2024.

At this point, PeckShield said that cryptocurrency attacks increased by 15% in 2024, with Ethereum in particular continuing to be the biggest target of hackers.

Blockchain security firm PeckShield stated in a post on its X account that more than $3 billion was lost due to crypto-related attacks and scams in 2024.

This figure corresponds to a 15% increase compared to 2023.

He also stated that there was a 30% increase in hacking attacks compared to the previous year, with more than 300 attacks taking place.

Stating that DeFi platforms are the primary targets of hackers, PeckShield stated that weak security practices are fundamental security vulnerabilities.

PeckShield added that Ethereum (ETH) was the most attacked in the hacking incidents, with ETH accounting for 34.8% of the incidents and 47.3% of the total losses.

“Crypto hacking incidents exceeded 300 incidents in 2024, with losses exceeding $2.15 billion.

While DeFi protocols remain a prime target, hackers are increasingly focusing on vulnerable organizations and individuals, exploiting poor private key management and weak security practices.

Ethereum was the most targeted blockchain, accounting for 34.8% of hacks and suffering the most losses at 47.3% of the total. Bitcoin followed in part due to its price appreciation.

While the Gaming industry faces a loss of $502 million, the #layDapp industry leads with a loss of $290 million.
