Billionaire Elon Musk asked US President Donald Trump to pardon Roger Ver, who was nicknamed Bitcoin -Jesus.

On January 21, Trump kept his word from the campaign and released from prison creator of the darknet marketplace Silk Road Ross Ulbricht, who was sentenced to life in prison. Other View podcast host Ian Miles Cheong wrote that it was the turn of Roger Ver, who was arrested in Spain last year.

It will be up to the president to decide, but I asked him if it [pardoning Roger Ver] was possible, Musk wrote in response to Ian's post.

Roger is accused in the US of tax evasion in the amount of $48 million. According to law enforcement, Ver renounced his US citizenship, received a passport from the island nation of Saint Kitts and Nevis and in 2017 exchanged bitcoins for $240 million, without adding a penny to the US budget, because he allegedly hid from the authorities the fact that he owned approximately 131,000 BTC.

For tax evasion Bitcoin -Jesus, who received this nickname for popularizing BTC, threatens punishment up to five years in prison and a fine of up to $100,000. Roger has pleaded not guilty to the crime and believes that the tax authorities are targeting him because of his activities related to the promotion of cryptocurrencies.

Speaking of Trump, it is worth noting that he has shown leniency not only to Ross, but also to his Republican supporters who suffered during the presidency of Democrat Joe Biden. After his inauguration on January 20, Donald pardoned more than 1,500 participants in the 2021 Capitol attack, convicted of assaulting police officers.
