Economist: could go back to Trump 1.0 script

Economist: could go back to Trump 1.0 script

Christopher Hodge, chief U.S. economist at France's Bank of Foreign Trade in New York, after Trump's suspension of tariffs, I think it's fair to say that foreign tariffs could be lowered a little bit through bilateral negotiations. It's going to be trickier in free-trading countries like South Korea where there's not a lot of room for tariff reductions. We might go back to the Trump 1.0 version of the script, where foreign countries agree to buy more specific goods from the US. That might slightly improve the trade deficit, but it wouldn't fundamentally change trade relations as much as the administration would like.
