US Commerce Secretary: “Golden Cards” for Immigrants to Be Issued Within a Week
US Commerce Secretary Donald Lutnick said on 10 April, local time, that the issuance of ‘golden cards’ for immigrants will begin within a week. US President Donald Trump said on April 3 that he expects to issue ‘gold’ visas in the coming weeks. Speaking to the media at the White House on 25 February local time, Trump said he intended to sell US ‘gold cards’ priced at $5 million each, targeting wealthy immigrants. According to him, this ‘gold card’ will not directly grant the buyer U.S. citizenship, and therefore does not need to pass through the U.S. Congress, but will grant the same rights as a ‘green card’ and is "a powerful path to U.S. citizenship. It is a "powerful pathway to U.S. citizenship. Trump said the federal government could sell 10 million ‘gold cards’ to reduce the deficit.
