Soluna Holdings Announces New Wind-Powered Data Center in Texas

According to a recent announcement , Soluna has signed a term sheet for the project’s power. Project Ellen will be developed in two phases, each with a capacity of 50MW. A power partner owns the wind farm.

John Belizaire, CEO of Soluna Holdings, stated,

“With Project Ellen, we continue to prove that computing can be a powerful driver for renewable energy adoption. This expansion in Texas reinforces our commitment to solving the challenge of underutilized green power while providing the infrastructure needed for the future of Bitcoin and AI.”

Project Ellen is named after Ellen Ochoa, the first Hispanic woman in space. Soluna specializes in modular data centres located at renewable energy sites, which are used to host mining or AI hardware. The company also provides its cloud services.

Soluna is developing other campuses in Texas, including the 187MW Project Rosa site, the 50MW Dorothy I A and B, the 48MW Dorothy II, and the 2MW Grace site. The company also has Project Sophie, a 25MW data centre in Kentucky.

Soluna recently signed agreements to secure land for Project Kati in Texas, a 166MW site hosting Bitcoin mining and AI facilities. The project will be delivered in two 83MW phases. Soluna aims to host 698MW of data centre capacity across nine sites. The company’s long-term pipeline includes 19 projects with a total capacity of 2.6 GW.

Notably, Texas lawmakers are updating a bill to create a state-run cryptocurrency reserve managed by financial experts. This aims to establish Texas as a leader in cryptocurrency innovation and economic growth.
