Analyst: Four Major Threats to American Exceptionalism, Trump's Manufacturing Repatriation Plan Will Fail
Eric Peters, Chief Strategist at One River Asset Management, points out that the underlying logic of American exceptionalism is its hegemonic position in the global economic and political landscape. However, this position is facing four major threats: heavy taxes on capital flows, policy shifts that weaken technological and medical monopolies, the failure of the judicial system to check the government, and a continuous plunge in productivity. Peters believes that the Trump administration's efforts to bring manufacturing back will fail because vested interest groups will not allow changes to the existing cheap labor market and loose capital regulation.
