Base Network reveals improvements with faster and cheaper transactions
- Base Network focuses on transactions below $0,01
- Base Update Targets 200 Transactions Per Second
- Base network speed can reach 200 milliseconds
Ethereum’s second-layer solution, Base Network, has unveiled new updates aimed at improving the network’s scalability and decentralization. Jesse Pollak, the project’s lead, announced on May 24, 2025, that the improvements will be implemented by the summer, with a focus on reducing fees and increasing transaction efficiency.
According to Pollak, the goal is to achieve confirmation times of 200 milliseconds, reduce fees to less than $0,01, and achieve a processing rate of 200 transactions per second (TPS). The proposal aims to optimize the user experience and position Base as a high-performance network among Layer 2 solutions in the Ethereum ecosystem.

The changes are part of a broader effort to improve performance while maintaining decentralization. Pollak noted that net neutrality and mitigating practices like sandwich transactions remain priorities in the development of Base, in line with decentralized finance (DeFi) principles.
The community responded positively to the announcement, seeing the updates as an opportunity to make Base more attractive to applications that demand speed and low cost, such as games, micropayments and DeFi platforms. The expectation is that the new configuration will also reduce the dependence on centralized solutions, strengthening the trust of developers and users in the network.
With these ambitious goals, Base Network reinforces its role in expanding scalable solutions in the Ethereum ecosystem. The combination of speed, affordable fees, and decentralization could significantly increase its adoption in the coming months, especially given the growing demand for efficient alternatives to mainnets.
