Foreign Media: Trump Demands Countries Submit "Best Offers" by Wednesday
According to a report by Jinse Finance, a letter seen by Reuters indicates that the Trump administration is urging countries involved in high-level tariff negotiations to submit their "best offers" for trade talks by Wednesday. This move comes as the White House seeks to accelerate trade negotiations before the July deadline. The document reveals a sense of urgency within the U.S. government to complete deals within the tight timeframe. Despite repeated assurances from officials like White House economic advisor Hassett that multiple agreements are close to being reached, so far, the U.S. has only secured one agreement with a major trading partner, the United Kingdom. Even so, this limited agreement resembles more of a framework for ongoing negotiations rather than a final deal. The letter states that the U.S. hopes countries will outline their best proposals in several key areas, including tariff and quota concessions for industrial and agricultural product purchases, as well as plans for non-tariff barriers. The letter also mentions that the U.S. will evaluate responses from all parties within days and propose a "range of possible solutions," which may include reciprocal tariff rates. It is unclear which specific countries the letter will be sent to, but the target is those engaged in active negotiations. It is reported that the U.S. is currently in active negotiations with countries and regions such as the European Union, Japan, Vietnam, and India.
