Israeli Airstrikes Target Iran's Energy Infrastructure
According to Iranian media reports on the 14th, two refineries in Bushehr Province, southern Iran, were hit by Israeli airstrikes that day, causing explosions and fires at some facilities. The fires have now been brought under control. According to Iran's Tasnim News Agency, a unit of the Phase 14 project at the South Pars refinery caught fire after being attacked, while other units continue to operate normally. Natural gas production at this phase of the project is ongoing. Another attack occurred at the Fajr Jam refinery. The report stated that the National Iranian Gas Company is conducting further investigations into the incident. The Islamic Republic News Agency of Iran, citing officials from the Bushehr Province Crisis Management Department, reported that the fires at both facilities were brought under control on the evening of the 14th, with no casualties reported so far. According to Israel's Haaretz newspaper, this is the first time Israel has attacked Iranian energy infrastructure, and it is also the first attack on a refinery inside Iran since the Iran-Iraq War in the 1980s.
