Ripple’s RLUSD gains $47T custodian for compliance boost
Ripple has announced a partnership with Bank of New York Mellon (BNY Mellon) to serve as the primary reserves custodian for its stablecoin, Ripple USD (CRYPTO:RLUSD).
This move aims to enhance RLUSD’s operational transparency and regulatory compliance, signalling a shift toward broader institutional adoption of stablecoins in global finance.
“This partnership with BNY not only strengthens RLUSD’s operational transparency and regulatory compliance but also signals growing institutional adoption of stablecoins, potentially redefining their role in global finance.” Reece Merrick, senior executive officer and managing director for the Middle East and Africa at Ripple, said on social media platform X on July 10.
BNY Mellon manages more than $47 trillion in assets under custody or administration, which adds significant credibility to RLUSD.
The stablecoin is fully backed by U.S. dollar deposits, short-term Treasuries, and cash equivalents, with oversight from this globally trusted financial institution.
This structure aligns RLUSD with traditional finance, positioning it to meet increasing regulatory scrutiny worldwide.
Ripple’s approach emphasises regulatory clarity and asset transparency, factors critical to gaining institutional trust.
The partnership reflects Ripple’s strategy to establish RLUSD as a compliance-focused, enterprise-grade stablecoin for long-term relevance in institutional markets.
This collaboration also highlights a broader trend where stablecoins are increasingly integrated with established financial systems to address regulatory concerns and improve investor confidence.
Despite ongoing debates about centralisation within the crypto sector, Ripple’s model suggests that regulatory alignment can coexist with growth in stablecoin adoption.
Merrick framed the collaboration as a step toward integrating stablecoins into mainstream financial systems.
As regulatory frameworks evolve, RLUSD’s architecture may help it stand apart from competitors by prioritising compliance and transparency.
At the time of reporting, RLUSD price was $0.9999.
